Two people convicted by military courts for their involvement in the May 9 tragedy have been transferred to Adiala prison under strict security measures, Express News reported.
Raja Muhammad Ihsan and Umar Farooq, convicted by military courts, have been shifted to the high security prison. Both men were sentenced to 10 years each for their roles in the incident.
Sources inside the jail confirmed the transfer and noted that other convicts sentenced by military courts for their involvement in the May 9 events would be transferred to local district jails in the coming days.
Military courts have sentenced 25 civilians to prison terms of between two and 10 years for their role in violent attacks on military installations during nationwide unrest in May 2023, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
According to army media, the General Field Martial Court has sentenced 25 people in the first phase, following a thorough review of the evidence and completion of appropriate legal procedures.
“The convicted individuals were involved in attacks on key military sites including Jinnah House, General Headquarters (GHQ) and Pakistan Air Force Base in Mianwali,” he said.
Fourteen people received sentences of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, while the others received shorter sentences, the statement said.
