- While data is limited, victims face increased risks of phishing and identity fraud.
The Vimeo data breach that took place in April 2026 affected more than 119,000 people, new data from Have I Been Pwned? has revealed, and victims largely lose email addresses and names.
In late April, Vimeo notified its users about a security incident that occurred as a result of the Anodot breach, when the ShinyHunters gang broke in through third-party integration features and accessed Anodot users’ Snowflake accounts, including Vimeo’s.
Anodot is an AI-powered cloud-based analytics platform that searches for business incidents and anomalies in real-time, helping businesses identify sudden drops in sales, cost increases, or technical failures before they can significantly impact the organization and its customers.

ShinyHunters leaks the files
Initially, Vimeo believed that attackers had stolen technical data, video titles, and metadata. He said that only in “some cases” customers’ email addresses may have been compromised. The company also did not know at the time how many people were affected.
Now, since negotiations with ShinyHunters failed, the gang decided to leak 106 GB of stolen documents.
“Data from your Snowflake and Bigquery instances was compromised thanks to Anodot.com,” the extortion ring allegedly said, according to beepcomputer. “The company was unable to reach an agreement with us despite our incredible patience and all the opportunities and offers we made.”
At the same time, have I been fooled? analyzed the file and said it exposes the email addresses of 119,200 people and some names.
There’s not much hackers can do with just emails and names, but they could send relatively convincing phishing emails or try to open different accounts under victims’ names. Therefore, it would be wise to be wary of incoming emails, especially those claiming to be from Vimeo.
