- Spotify brings AI DJ to more countries, including France and Germany
- Users of these markets have been asking for access for years.
- AI DJ will also be launched in four new languages
Is Spotify’s AI DJ not available in your country yet? If the answer is yes, you share a common problem with many loyal subscribers around the world, but that’s about to change as Spotify is expanding its digital master to more regions – finally!
After years of being available only in select markets around the world, many subscribers have taken to social media to express their frustrations (you can see an example of these types of posts below). But that is now changing, as Spotify finally announced that it will be launching AI DJ in more countries.
I really like the implementation of AI DJ, but it seems a bit basic. These are some of my ideas to make you feel better. from r/truespotify
Starting today, Premium users in a handful of European regions will receive the AI DJ treatment, including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Switzerland. The feature is also rolling out to users in Brazil and South Korea.
In addition to the feature coming to more countries, Spotify is also expanding its language availability to French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, making it much easier for you to send your voice requests to the DJ in your native language.
It’s been a pretty slow launch for one of the most popular features of the best music streaming service. Apart from the unsupported languages, users around the world have been left baffled by its slow rollout, given that AI DJ has been a flagship feature of Spotify for almost three years.
When Spotify first launched AI DJ in early 2023, it was initially only available to Premium subscribers in the US and Canada. Shortly after, Spotify expanded AI DJ’s accessibility to music fans in the United Kingdom and Ireland, followed by a broader launch in Australia and New Zealand, as well as select markets in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Even then, AI DJ availability still seemed quite restrictive, and despite these expansions, many users in larger markets were still left out of the equation. This has mainly affected Premium subscribers in European markets such as France and Germany, and Spotify subscribers have not hesitated to express their annoyance.
One Redditor recently said: “I got a notification saying the DJ was there… so I clicked on it and it said it’s not available in my country.” Hopefully these frustrations can be overcome now that Spotify is bringing AI DJ to countries that have been missing out.
We reached out to Spotify who gave us more information on why AI DJ has taken its time to roll out to more markets and shared the following:
“To create DJs, we want it to feel like a native experience. That’s why we went through over 100 auditions, selecting announcers who felt authentic to each market. From there, the team worked with local teams to help shape each DJ’s personality, making sure the tone, warmth and cultural nuances felt genuinely local, not simply translated.”
Additionally, the platform also teased new AI DJ developments that are in the works: “Our plan is to continue collecting feedback from listeners and improve the DJ experience to make it more interactive for our listeners.”
