Chief of Naval Staff says country’s strategic location on key maritime trade and energy routes drives Navy modernization

Pakistan Navy has inducted the second PN MILGEM Class Corvette, PNS KHAIBAR, into its fleet, marking a major milestone in the modernization and operational capabilities of the service, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Addressing the swearing-in ceremony, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted the importance of “a strong, balanced and technologically advanced Navy” to safeguard Pakistan’s maritime interests and ensure the security of vital maritime lines of communication (SLOC), according to a statement issued by the ISPR.

He highlighted the country’s strategic location along key maritime trade and energy corridors as a key factor behind the navy’s modernization efforts.
Admiral Ashraf further said that the navy is being equipped with “state-of-the-art platforms and niche technologies that enable it to target critical infrastructure/vulnerabilities and naval assets of the adversary.”

According to the ISPR, recalling the navy’s operations during Marka-e-HaqAdmiral Ashraf claimed that the Pakistan Navy “was on the verge of sinking the Indian Navy aircraft carrier, forcing the Indian Navy to remain retreated in its supposed safe havens,” sending a clear message that any challenge to Pakistan’s maritime security will be met decisively.
Concluding his speech, the naval chief extended his best wishes to the crew of PNS KHAIBAR and reaffirmed the determination of the Pakistan Navy “to defend the sovereign seas and fulfill its responsibility as guardian of the maritime borders,” the statement added.
The addition of the PNS KHAIBAR, along with the upcoming HANGOR class submarines, marks a milestone in the modernization of the navy, enhancing operational flexibility, combat power and strategic reach.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep satisfaction and pride over the addition of modern warship PNS KHAIBAR to the Pakistan Navy fleet, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
He described the development as a milestone in enhancing Pakistan’s defense capabilities and ensuring effective protection of its maritime borders.
“A strong, balanced and technologically advanced navy is indispensable to safeguard national interests and ensure secure maritime lines of communications,” he said.
Referring to “Marka-e-Haq”, He said that the professionalism and strategy of Pakistan Navy forced the enemy to retreat.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and maritime interests.
The prime minister said the government remains committed to equipping the Pakistan Navy in accordance with modern requirements.
