China’s ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, on Tuesday expressed Beijing’s support for Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating engagement between the United States and Iran, according to a statement shared on X.

The envoy met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad to discuss regional developments. During the meeting, Ambassador Zaidong conveyed China’s “full support and recognition for Pakistan’s continued efforts to facilitate engagement between the United States and Iran for sustained peace and stability in the region and beyond.”

The statement said the discussions also focused on the latest regional situation. Dar reaffirmed the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between Pakistan and China, underlining the strength of bilateral ties.

He also emphasized the importance of continuing high-level exchanges between the two countries.

Dar also held a telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday to discuss the latest regional developments, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X.

The statement said both ministers “emphasized the importance of dialogue and compromise for peace and stability” during their discussion. He added that the two sides agreed to remain in close contact as part of ongoing diplomatic coordination on regional issues.

Foreign Minister Dar has received unprecedented international recognition for his diplomatic leadership, as Pakistan positioned itself at the center of high-stakes mediation efforts during the escalating crisis between Iran, the United States and Israel.

Over the past week, senior officials and influential voices from more than ten countries, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United States, China, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Uzbekistan, have publicly acknowledged Dar’s role in facilitating ceasefire negotiations.

Meanwhile, Islamabad is preparing to host the second round of talks between Iran and the United States after Washington confirmed that a high-level delegation led by US Vice President JD Vance would arrive in Pakistan.

Pakistan emerged as a central facilitator in the delicate diplomatic track, positioning itself as an “honest broker” amid sharply polarized positions between Washington and Tehran. While the first round highlighted deep disagreements over sanctions, maritime security and regional influence, officials suggest both sides have so far kept the channel open, even as public rhetoric has hardened ahead of the next phase of talks.
