- DC Studios has released a final trailer for this Supergirl
- This further underlines why it’s no longer called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
- The film starring Milly Alcock will be released on June 26
Less than a month left supergirl takes off in theaters around the world, and what better way to celebrate its rapidly approaching release date than with a new trailer?
Well, that’s exactly what DC Studios has done today (June 3) by revealing another round of images ahead of the next film’s arrival on June 26. And, if it wasn’t entirely clear why the comic book movie was stripped of the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ subtitle, this latest trailer basically explains it.
Look
For those who don’t know: the DC Universe (DCU) the film is heavily inspired by Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowalso known as the 2021 graphic novel series created by Tom King and Bilquis Eveley.
Following its initial reveal as part of the original DCU Chapter One lineup of films and television shows, the Milly Alcock-directed film bore the same name as its comic book counterpart. However, last June, DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that its title had been shortened to supergirl because he was “fed up” with watching movies with superfluous subtitles.
At the time, it seemed like a strange decision. After all, supergirl It was intended to directly adapt a story from an existing literary work, so abandoning the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ part of this narrative starring Kara Zor-El did not seem like a wise move.

Fast forward to April 2026 and it began to become clear to me that supergirl It wouldn’t be the comic book adaptation I expected. In fact, the footage released as part of its official trailer indicated that it would only be inspired by Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowrather than being a 1:1 translation of the story within its pages.
With the arrival of this third and final preview, I am fully convinced that this is also the case. From the reveal that it’s Clark Kent, aka Kal El, aka Superman, who gives Kara her super suit and the signs that Lobo will have a major role in this movie, to Krem’s seemingly superhuman abilities (N.B: he’s just an ordinary guy in the comics), down to the large number of vehicles at his forces’ disposal (double note: they only have one spaceship in the graphic novel), it seems supergirlThe creative team has played fast and loose with their source material.
All of this is to say that my enthusiasm for one of 2026’s many new movies hasn’t been quashed by this new trailer. I’m still looking forward to seeing Kara kick ass in a live-action movie she desperately deserves, and I’m still hoping supergirl to contain all the main story beats of Woman of tomorrow. I just wish it was more of a direct adaptation than a reimagining of King and Eveley’s award-winning literary works.
