Cara Delevingne has opened up about what it was really like to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show at the height of her modeling career and the complicated feelings she kept hidden throughout the process.
Speaking on the June 3 episode calls his daddyThe 33-year-old model and actress reflected on her debut on the famous runway in 2012, a time when she had not yet publicly explored or revealed her sexuality.
He described the experience as both fun and disorienting, like playing dress-up while keeping a secret he hadn’t yet fully examined.
“I was in the closet. I was gay and also [thinking]”Am I the only lesbian who has ever worked at Victoria’s Secret?” she said.
“I was having a great time, but also very confused. I felt like I was a closet lesbian.”
Delevingne said she had never felt close to femininity growing up and had not enjoyed being a girl in a world where she felt she had fewer opportunities for that identity.
Walking in a miniskirt and stilettos at one of fashion’s biggest events meant embodying a version of herself that felt performed rather than authentic.
“There’s something darker about this” undermines the fun, he said, because he was navigating his identity without a clear idea of where he was.
She returned for the 2013 show and was invited again in 2016, but declined.
He is now in a relationship with singer-songwriter Leah Mason, known professionally as Mink, whom he met at boarding school and reconnected with twelve years later.
