Real Madrid will bring back Jose Mourinho for a second spell some 13 years after he left the club, the Spanish powerhouse said on Thursday.
The Portuguese coach arrives with a three-year contract and will officially take over on July 13, when the preseason begins, the club reported.
Mourinho left no one indifferent in Spain with his abrasive but undeniably successful management style when he first managed Madrid from 2010 to 2013.
During his first career, he led Madrid to a Spanish league title and a Copa del Rey crown. However, he is most remembered for his confrontational personality that ended up dividing his own team and alienating all but the most die-hard fans, as well as a large portion of the local media.
Now he will inherit an underperforming team and rejoin a club in chaos.
Madrid have not won a major title in two years with superstar forward Kylian Mbappé on board. The club went through two coaches this season, Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa.
