- App update offers tabbed browsing, speaker/room sorting and dynamic volume slider for iOS
- Gradual release so that it does not reach everyone simultaneously
- It may take up to two weeks to arrive.
Sonos users may not need to continue creating alternative apps for their systems – the official app is getting a major update that’s rolling out now. It’s a gradual rollout, so not everyone will receive it at once, but it should arrive on everyone’s devices within the next fortnight.
Posting on Reddit, Sonos said: “We have a new update to the Sonos app and it’s important.” In addition to the usual bug fixes, there are major interface improvements and, on iOS, also a new volume interface.
According to ShaunFromSonos, you shouldn’t have to wait more than two weeks for the update on iOS or Android, and the timeline is “probably faster.” As long as you have Automatic Updates enabled, you will receive them as soon as they are deployed to your device.
Sonos app update in July 2026: what’s new?
The update is coming to the Sonos app and Player and offers clear tabbed navigation, with buttons to clearly show what’s selected and more prominent Home, System and Search options. This navigation change is optional, so to enable it you will need to go into the app settings and activate Enable enhanced navigation.
The app will now allow you to reorder speakers and rooms directly. You can sort alphabetically, by frequency of use, and by which speakers are currently playing audio. You can also pin your favorite speakers for quick access. As with the interface changes, this is optional and requires you to enable enhanced navigation.
On iOS, there’s a new volume slider that gets larger when you interact with it and displays the number inside the slider so you can see exactly what volume level you’ve selected.
Initial responses seem pretty positive so far, with one user noting that the search function seems much faster on Android. Sonos actively seeks feedback here, so if you already have the update, they’d like to know what you think about the app update thread on Reddit.
