Tom Cruise gave Christopher Nolan a gift The odyssey his enthusiastic seal of approval, taking to social media after an early screening to declare that he can’t wait to see it again.
The mission: impossible The star posted a photo of himself holding a ticket in front of a 70mm IMAX theater, directly addressing the filmmaker and his producing partner.
“Wow! To Chris, Emma and your ENTIRE brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theater. I can’t wait to see it again!” he wrote.
The endorsement has weight coming from Cruise, who is one of the most vocal defenders of the theatrical experience in Hollywood.
He held back Top Gun: Maverick during the pandemic instead of releasing it on streaming, a decision that paid off spectacularly when the film grossed almost $1.5 billion worldwide.
Steven Spielberg later told Cruise: “You saved Hollywood’s ass, and you could have saved theatrical distribution. Seriously, Dissident “It could have saved the entire theater industry.”
Since then, Cruise has made a habit of publicly supporting other filmmakers’ film releases, promoting everything from Nolan films Principle and oppenheimer to sinners and Disclosure day.
While the two have never worked together, Cruise and Nolan share a deep commitment to the big screen experience, and The odyssey represents the most complete expression of Nolan’s theatrical ambitions yet, being the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX 70mm film cameras.
The film officially opens on Friday.
