The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Thursday that he would love to reach an agreement with China to end a growing commercial war.

Trump made the comments during a cabinet meeting opened to the press. The United States Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said during the meeting that as agreements with countries liquidate, it will bring more certainty about commercial policy.

Trump said: “I would love to get to a deal with China.”

Speaking about the potential of the conversations in progress, he said: “I think we will end up solving something good for both countries.”

Trump also commented on the war in Ukraine, stating that progress were being made to finish the conflict. “… We are advancing to stop the Russia-Ukraine War,” he added.

When heading to the financial side of its policies, Trump suggested that the income generated by tariffs could go to pay the national debt. “I would use tariff money to pay the debt,” he said.

In his comments on the European Union trade, Trump said he was considering approaching the EU as a unified block when discussing tariffs. “Looking at the EU as a block in rates,” he said.

Trump’s comments arrive at a time of greatest approach to the United States commercial policies and their potential influence on international relations if he returned to the presidency.
