A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), directed by Jihad Azour, met with the president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, in Islamabad on Friday to discuss the economic situation of the country and the IMF program in progress.
The Minister of Finance, Muhammad Aurengzeb, Senator Salem Mandviwalo and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
The president praised the support of the IMF to Pakistan, stating that the program had helped stabilize the economy and further stimulate growth.
He also recognized the broader contribution of the IMF to economic development in emerging markets, pointing to his vital role in Pakistan’s own progress.
The IMF delegation expressed satisfaction with the economic reforms of Pakistan and described the current program as “move in the right direction.”
The members of the delegation emphasized that the program had helped reduce inflation and fiscal deficit and strengthening Pakistan’s currency reserves.
Thanking the IMF for its continuous support and cooperation with Pakistan, President Zardari also appreciated the Ministry of Finance for his efforts to improve the national economy.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his government’s resolution to accelerate institutional reforms and consolidate macroeconomic stability, saying that Pakistan was now doing the transition from recovery to sustained growth.
“With the grace of Allah, Pakistan is now going from economic stability towards sustainable growth,” said Shehbaz Sharif during a high -level meeting with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Jihad Azour in the prime minister’s office.
He stressed that the main priority of the government was not only to maintain macroeconomic gains, but also to accelerate comprehensive institutional reforms, crucial for long -term resistance.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the implementation of the current Program of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of Pakistan.
Both parties expressed satisfaction on the progress made and the positive impact of the current reforms.
The IMF delegation welcomed the reforms made by Islamabad and ensured the continuous support of Pakistan’s economic stabilization and the inclusive growth agenda.
