NEW YORK – Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) had a lot on his mind heading into All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) main event at Double or Nothing in New York City on Sunday night.
He took a chance on a chance to become a three-time AEW World Champion against his home state against Darby Allin, the man he lost his belt to over a month ago. Mick Foley’s first appearance with the company didn’t help matters either, as the pro wrestling legend had his choice of words for MJF before the show even started.
MJF responded with a kick to the groin, not just to Foley, but to the thousands waiting to see Allin hold down and shave MJF.

Against the backdrop of the weather on a Memorial Day holiday weekend fitting for the Pacific Northwest and a dozen signs wanting MJF to go bald by the end of the night, MJF went to war with Allin from the start. He avoided a suicidal jump from Allin, which landed the competitor head-first into the announce table.
MJF hit a powerbomb on Allin and would proceed to set up the steel steps to nail Allin with a package hammer. The crowd responded with groans after the play, which caused damage to both men. At one point, the exhausted fighters were hanging from the ropes by a thread. They looked at each other, almost in mutual admiration across the ring.
The fight was still going on.
MJF carried Allin up the ramp hoping to jump Allin and shave his head before Allin could get the scissors. He pushed the barber’s chair out of the way, but Allin countered and took MJF down. Allin placed MJF on the table and looked towards the scaffolding.

Ring announcer Justin Roberts had called Allin “crazy as fuck” while introducing him to the crowd. Allin then proceeded to do the “fucking crazy” thing. He climbed the scaffold hoping to inflict the last bit of damage to defeat MJF and retain the title.
Allin stood high above MJF atop the scaffolding, graced Foley with a “bang, bang” and leapt several feet off the ground and through MJF and the table in one of the wildest moments of the night.
Allin came out of this very damaged. The back of his head was bleeding quite a bit as he tried to drag MJF back into the ring for the pin and the win. Allin hit a Coffin Drop but MJF kicked out at two. He then tried to get MJF to hit a Scorpion Death Lock, but ran out of steam.
MJF thwarted another Coffin Drop and was able to get Allin in position for an avalanche Tombstone Piledriver. He pulled it off perfectly and pinned Allin for the win.

MJF became a three-time AEW World Champion at the age of 30. He joined other professional wrestling legends such as Lou Thesz, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, John Cena, Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada with this historic victory.
Perhaps most importantly, he did not need to shave his head.

The damage did not end for Allin. They were carrying him out of the ring on a stretcher when Kevin Knight came out. Knight apparently turned and hit Allin with a UFO Splash while he was strapped on the stretcher.
