One of the funniest celebrations in all of baseball may have helped the Los Angeles Angels snap a streak of more than 100 games on Monday night.
For the first time in their last 106 games, the Angels won a game when they were trailing in the ninth inning, according to ESPN. And their fan base had a specific cheer they did to help propel their team to a decisive victory against the St. Louis Cardinals.
It’s called the joy of “taking off the tarps” and it’s become quite the movement this season. Simply put, fans take off their jerseys and wave them in a specific section of the field, and that was right field at Angel Stadium on Monday night.

Hundreds of fans were seen waving their jerseys and cheering on their team, which was down 2-1 when it was discovered in the top of the eighth inning.
The rabid cheering section would continue until the bottom of the ninth when Jo Adell came to the plate with the bases loaded and a game tied with a chance to come out on top.
Perhaps it was the “take off the tarps” move that affected the Cardinals pitcher, as he knocked down Adell and allowed Zach Neto to come to the plate for the winning run.
It’s also something the Cardinals fan base made famous this season, as Busch Stadium became the hotbed for some shirtless celebrations.

On May 15, the Cardinals were facing the Kansas City Royals when fans in the stands were seen cheering. It was even something that Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said prompted him to purchase tickets for those fans who wanted to participate.
However, Angels fans gave the Cardinals faithful a taste of their own medicine, and it’s something they’ve also been practicing since May.
And the movement has also evolved into a fan protest group, as “Sell the team” has been chanted from those right field seats numerous times this season. Angels owner Arte Moreno has come under fire as the team has not missed the playoffs since 2014.

The Angels are once again at the bottom of the barrel in the American League West, with a 40-61 record despite a 3-2 win on Monday night. They are 11 games out of the division lead.
