At least 16 people martyred and several injured in train explosion in Quetta

PM Shehbaz reaffirms resolve to eliminate terrorism as CM Bugti warns of no safe haven for terrorists

More than 16 people were martyred and several others injured in an explosion on railway tracks near Chaman Phatak area in Quetta on Sunday.

According to police sources, the explosion occurred near Chaman Phatak when a train carrying passengers was passing through the area. The people on the train were heading to their areas to celebrate Eid holidays, sources said.

As a result, 16 people were martyred and several others, including women and children, suffered injuries. The bodies and wounded are being transferred to the Civil Hospital.

Vehicles parked along the road were damaged as a result of the explosion. Law enforcement agencies (LEA) arrived at the scene, cordoned off the entire area and began an investigation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the “heinous bomb blast” and said: “Such cowardly acts of terrorism cannot weaken the resolve of the people of Pakistan.”

The prime minister also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“The entire nation stands in solidarity with the people of Balochistan in this time of grief,” Prime Minister Shehbaz concluded in his statement.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti also condemned the attack and said, “Fitna Al-Hindustan terrorists are demonstrating their savagery by attacking innocent civilians, women and children.”

He added: “Those who shed the blood of innocent people do not deserve leniency.”

CM Bugti also issued a warning to the terrorist elements in the region, saying, “Let the enemy hear this: there will be no safe haven left for terrorists in Balochistan. We will hunt down the terrorists, their facilitators and their masterminds one by one and bring them to justice, and this war will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated.”

Meanwhile, Adviser to Balochistan Chief Minister Shahid Rind stated, “We are deeply saddened and grieved by the loss of precious human lives. Terrorist elements do not deserve leniency.”

The advisor noted that CM Bugti is personally monitoring the situation, adding that after the explosion, a medical emergency was imposed in Quetta hospitals, with all doctors, paramedical staff and medical staff urgently called to work.

“Investigations have begun and the elements involved cannot escape the law,” Rind said. He added that the injured are being provided immediate medical assistance and the best treatment facilities.

On Saturday, nine suspected terrorists were killed and four Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials were martyred during a gunfight on the outskirts of Quetta.

The high-risk intelligence-based operation was carried out by the CTD and allied security forces in the suburban towns of Kuchlak and Nohsar.

Terrorism is a growing problem for Pakistan, with the number of attacks increasing every year from 2022, according to Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED), a global monitoring organization.

ACLED data shows that attacks in Pakistan almost quadrupled to 2,425 in 2025 from 658 in 2022 and during the same period, attacks by banned militant Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan increased more than seven-fold to 838 from 118.

Although Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has been the worst affected by terrorism, Balochistan has also remained a major target of Indian proxies, who often attack civilians and military installations in the province.
