Athena has been one of the most dominant champions in professional wrestling and that dominance continued Friday night at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor.

The Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship was on the line in a six-way Survival of the Fittest match. Athena had to survive Billie Starkz, Maya World, Trish Adora, Yuka Sakazaki and Zayda Steel. Chairs, ladders and other strange objects entered the game during the night.

While Athena eliminated Steel early, defeating the rest of her opponents was no easy task. Athena found herself in a precarious situation. The competitors stacked chairs on top of each other and Adora used them. She chokeslammed Athena through them during the match.

Sakazaki even tried his best to keep Athena down.

Athena was lying on a table. Instead of going to the top turnbuckle to perform a Splash, Sakazaki jumped off the top rope in the middle of the ring and hit the Magical Girl Splash onto Athena and through the table.

Still, Athena was not intimidated.

Athena needed to climb almost 10 feet to a ladder. He turned it off and hit World with the O-Face. He then pinned World, completing the final elimination.

Athena has now eclipsed 1,253 days as Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion.

She told Fightful earlier in the week that her goal was to surpass Bruno Sammartino’s reign as champion. The legendary professional wrestler held the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship for 2,803 days at the height of his career.

“Hey, when we get to the Supercard of Honor this week and I top Roman Reigns’ last epic championship, I just want you to know that I’m going to be very petty,” she said. “I want everyone to know that we’re going to have the meanest celebration ever. We’re going to have kittens, green apple skittles, whiskey, tequila, whatever… But we’re going to have a big smorgasbord party. We’re going to have a cookout. It’s going to be amazing.

“But like I said before, my goal is Bruno Sammartino. Seven years, honey, seven years. But you know what, when you’re ‘champion forever,’ what are years? What are years? A lot of people think that might be getting past me. But at the end of the day, I’ve been champion for more than… what’s 1,250 days or something? I don’t see this anytime soon.

“Heck, all these girls in this match think they’ve learned something from experiencing Athena, but I’m always changing, always evolving. That’s how I’ve always been and there will be no one harder working than me. As I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, no man can touch my reign, no woman can live up to my legacy. I’m the eternal Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. It’s about time they got over it.”

It is clear that the “Forever Champion” is focused on being just that.
