Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has gotten into new trouble after testing positive for marijuana. He will now serve 30 days in jail and miss key offseason activities with the team.
By testing positive for the capsules, Rice would have violated probation conditions tied to his involvement in a high-speed car crash in Dallas last year, resulting in a prison sentence. However, the prison sentence was suspended as part of his plea deal.
The receiver was booked into the Dallas County Jail earlier this week and is expected to remain there for much of the Chiefs’ offseason preparations, including organized team activities and mandatory minicamp.
Fans reacted to the development on social media with some joking that it’s the “worst possible way” for the NFL star to skip practice sessions. Several social media users expressed concern about players wondering why he was jeopardizing his future in the NFL.
Since entering the NFL out of SMU, the 26-year-old athlete has blossomed into a bright young mind. He has quickly become one of the main characters in the Chief offense due to his physical playing style and ability to gain yards after the catch.
However, the player’s off-field activities have continued to cause him problems. Previously, the Dallas accident and now the positive test for marijuana add more uncertainty surrounding his career as his team prepares for the upcoming NFL season.
The Kansas City Chiefs have not commented publicly on the matter so far.
