Christopher Nolan has divided moviegoers with the trailer for his next film. The odysseywhich would be a modern adaptation of Homer’s classic.
The 55-year-old director, however, is not too worried about the negative reactions before the film’s official release and the comments are based on the film itself.
In a new interview, Nolan said The telegraph“Look, these conversations that happen before people see the movie, they’re always irrelevant, because no one who has them knows what the movie really is yet.”
Critics have taken issue with the film’s language, which is modern rather than ancient, as well as the casting and translation that the writers relied on for the script.
Nolan explained to the media that he received similar arrests when he worked at his Ordinance movies, as longtime fans had “a lot of loaded thoughts about what he represents.”
He continued, “And what I learned during my time on that trilogy is that you can’t worry about any of that. What you have to do is honor the original text by interpreting it in the strongest way that you personally can.”
Hoping that fans end up feeling the same about The odysseynoted, “In the end, fans of the property, even when we were doing something that wasn’t what they would have done, enjoyed the sincerity of the attempt to put the best possible version on the screen.”
