- World Running Day is celebrated on June 3
- Strava members who run 5K are eligible for a free two-week Runna membership
- Apple and Garmin Watch users who log a running workout will get a ‘limited edition’ digital reward
June 3 marks World Running Day, when dedicated running clubs, unique organized events and individuals around the world organize to put on their best running shoes, put on their best running watches and hit the streets, trails, parks or the nearest treadmill.
I get a lot of emails about different ‘holidays’ I’ve never heard of before in my inbox (make sure you don’t forget to send your National Avocado Day cards to friends and family this year!), but it’s always easy to participate in World Runner’s Day and get a reward, especially if you’re using a fitness tracker or a service like Strava to track your runs.
Strava users who log in and complete a 5K run on June 3 will get access to two weeks of Runna Premium for free. Runna is an AI personalized training plan service that adapts to your recorded workouts and changes the plan based on your performance. We rated it an impressive 4.5 stars in our Runna review, so it’s worth a try to see if it’s right for you.
You will need to join the Strava challenge (you can do so through this link) and once you complete it, you will receive an offer of two weeks of Runna Premium. Plus, you’ll earn a Strava x Runna digital badge and contribute to Strava’s attempt to break its record for most 5Ks completed in a single day.
More digital badges from Apple and Garmin, but not for Google Health users
Speaking of digital badges, the Strava x Runna award isn’t the only special badge you can earn on World Running Day.
As usual, users of the best Apple watches and the best Garmin watches can also participate. Users who complete a running workout on either platform will receive a “limited edition prize,” as Apple calls it, signifying the achievement. Apple sent us the image above of this year’s World Running Day award, while Garmin’s 2026 award can be seen in the Garminbadges.com database.
Google Health users won’t be able to join in the fun. With Google’s move from Fitbit Premium to Google Health Coach, the Badges feature and any historical badges earned have been removed.
Instead, Google said of removing the badges that “if you have Google Health Coach, your coach will help you celebrate your progress and achievements,” so there will be no World Running Day badge for Google Health users.
I guess it’s a lesson to all of us who love adding new digital badges to our library on our favorite fitness app: they could disappear at any moment!
