Eight-year-old boy killed and four injured in wall collapse in Baghbanpura, Lahore

An eight-year-old boy was killed and at least four others were injured after the wall of a building under construction collapsed in the Baghbanpura area of ​​Lahore on Thursday, according to Lahore Rescue 1122.

An official statement issued by the department noted that the third floor wall of the building under construction collapsed, trapping several people under the rubble and killing a minor.

The rescue services immediately responded to the call for help received at 12:12 p.m. and went to the scene of the accident to recover the child’s body and rescue the people injured in the incident.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmed said the deceased boy was identified as Abdullah, son of Amjad Butt.

He added that the four injured in the accident were shifted to Lahore Services Hospital for tertiary care by the rescue service. They were identified as Wasim, 42, Shakeel, 38, Nadeem, 35, and Faiz Ahmed, 32.

Detailing the incident, he said the wall of the under-construction building of a private school collapsed, trapping at least four people under the rubble and killing a child immediately upon impact. One person was trapped under the rubble and was rescued by the emergency team.

The incident occurred just two days after the roof collapse of an educational center in Lahore’s Kahna area claimed the lives of 14 children. Police opened a criminal case against the owners and a construction worker.

Police named four suspects in the case: three brothers, Usman, Faizan and Rehan, who owned the property, and Umair, a construction worker who was carrying out repairs on the building.

The FIR stated that repair work was being carried out while the children were attending classes inside the building. Construction material had apparently been placed on the ceiling of the room used as a teaching center, even though the ceiling was already in ruins.
