A look at the fall detector
It is clear that many of the Meta platforms are currently having some issues, as can be seen from the top of Down Detector in the United States.
Facebook, Messenger and Instagram top the list, with the former currently leading with over 120,000 reports.
Right now, I still can’t load Facebook on the desktop; Parts of the interface, such as the main sidebars, appear, but the actual content is missing. Now, I’m in New Jersey experiencing this, but my TechRadar colleagues in the UK are seeing a similar situation, with some posts appearing and then the feed appearing blank.

However, it looks like Meta engineers and other teams might have discovered the issue fairly quickly, as Facebook is loading again for some of my colleagues and reports about Down Detector are starting to appear for issues with Facebook and Messenger.
Facebook seems to be recovering a bit. I was able to load the home page and saw a few posts in the feed, but when I tried to click on one I only saw the centered logo and Meta at the bottom, so it looks like there may still be some issues with parts of the platform.

On iOS, the Facebook app still has issues, mainly because the top stories bar appears empty and the feed shows older stories. My colleague Josephine Watson in the UK is getting the “Try again” error at the top of her feed.
While Facebook is recovering and loading much closer to normal than we’re seeing closer to the end of the hour, Meta’s business products status page shows an active outage for ‘Facebook Ads Manager’, ‘Messenger API for Instagram’, ‘Messenger Platform’ and ‘WhatsApp Business Platform’.
Suffice to say, it’s clear that the issues affecting Meta span platforms including Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
Fall detector reports are decreasing
While reported issues with Facebook on Down Detector topped 120,000 almost an hour ago, that number has dropped quite a bit as the service has begun to recover. As of the last update at 10:47 am ET on Down Detector, Facebook reports were 12,286. It’s worth noting that it’s back up slightly, but it’s still a huge drop from the peak of this issue.
Still, 12,000 reports are certainly more than we typically see on a typical day on Facebook, no problem.
