- Valve is reportedly preparing to announce the price and release date of the Steam Machine.
- This occurs at the same time that the Steam Controller is suspected of starting before the Steam Machine.
- Reports suggest that Valve has been considering selling the Steam Machine at a loss, similar to the Steam Deck.
Valve’s Steam Machine has been in the process of launching since its initial reveal in November 2025, but has suffered delays due to the current memory crisis. Fortunately, the latest rumor suggests that the tide may be turning in favor of gamers who have been anticipating the console-style PC.
According to Insider Gaming, Valve is getting closer to announcing the price and release date of the Steam Machine. This comes after recent sightings of the Steam Controller in the Steam backend, imports, and users noticing the accessory’s presence in the Komodo Station store (Steam’s official online store in Asia).
Those findings have led many to believe that the Steam Machine isn’t too far away from an official announcement from Valve, and Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw adds some credence to gamer speculation, stating, “I take it that Valve is getting closer to confirming everything.”

Perhaps most importantly, Insider Gaming’s report highlights that Valve has been “going back and forth internally on pricing” and whether it would be able to “take a loss on cost,” at least in the short term. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the memory crisis is wreaking havoc on PC hardware manufacturers.
Valve taking a loss on the cost of the Steam Machine sounds familiar, as Valve boss Gabe Newell hinted that the Steam Deck was sold at a loss, describing the price as “painful” but “critical” to ensuring the device gets into the hands of as many consumers as possible.
History could repeat itself, but in more worrying times for Valve, as the current state of the hardware market is unprecedented and, like any gaming console or PC, the Steam Machine will require both RAM and storage, with the latter also commanding higher prices at both the manufacturer and consumer levels.
There won’t be a clear answer on Valve’s choice regarding the pricing of the Steam Machine until an official announcement comes, but if it’s priced at or below the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles that have received recent price increases, then it puts Valve in a strong position to compete in the console gaming space.
