EXCLUSIVE: Callaway brings America 250 to the golf course.
Callaway is launching a limited-edition USA 250 collection that pays homage to the spirit, craftsmanship and performance that have defined America since 1776. Callaway Vice President of Product Strategy and Category Management Jacob Davidson spoke with Pak Gazette Digital about the process of creating the USA 250 collection.
Davidson said the US-based golf company has done military-themed collections before to connect with veterans, and with America 250 they wanted to continue that theme.

“As a U.S.-based company, we really know that doing something that connects with veterans and current military members seemed really cool to have the crossover between golf and military service with so many people playing. And then heading into this year, we wanted to keep that theme of honoring the military,” Davidson said.
Davidson said with the America 250 coming up this year, it was a natural fit for a collection. Callaway has been working on the collection for 15 months, paying close attention to the details of the clubs.
Across Callaway’s entire line of precision-engineered drivers, putters, golf balls, wedges, hats and caps, patriotic details are at the center of it all.
“I think what’s really interesting is some of the details that we were actually able to do on this with the driver, there’s a little call from the address, Chestnut Street, where the Declaration of Independence was signed,” Davidson said. “If you look at the driver’s head cover, it says ‘we the people’. There’s a lot of detail there. We worked with True Temper, one of our partners, on the shafts. They made a specific shaft in USA colors. They added the eagle on the shaft that matches the driver’s.”

Callaway even reinvented its Odyssey Jailbird putter in “Free Bird,” with the help of the legal team.
“We actually changed the name of the Jailbird putter to the Free Bird. Jailbird has been an iconic putter for us. It’s one of our best models in play this week at Augusta. It has a big personality called Jailbird because of the stripes. Every headcover has this figure that looks like a Jailbird,” Davidson said.
“So we really took that and ran with it. We went to the legal team. We actually got the name Free Bird. Ironically, it was open, which is very difficult to get names now. On the cover, there’s a new Jailbird character who has an American bandana.”

Callaway’s USA 250 wedges feature color laser engraving for the first time, while commemorative golf balls and a modern waving flag design pay homage to the enduring American spirit.
“We just looked at every detail and said, ‘Hey, how can we make this special? How can we really give the consumer a product that really shows, you know, patriotism and craftsmanship and everything that we’ve been able to do as a country in 250 years?'” Davidson said.
“Callaway is a U.S.-based company and I think that’s something we’re very proud of.”
