- HBO Max’s new “coming soon” trailer has revealed the first look at The golden age season 4
- George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha (Carrie Coon) look happy together despite the huge success of season 3
- Also seen are Peggy (Denée Benton) and William (Jordan Donica), and Marian (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry (Harry Richardson).
HBO Max has released its 2026 “coming soon” trailer, showing off releases for late 2026, including the harry potter TV series, Lanternsand The golden age season 4. You can catch up on everything below.
While we’ve already seen trailers for the first two titles, this is the first time we’ve gotten a first look at the new episodes of The golden ageand there is something immediately intriguing.
In just a few seconds of footage, we see newly separated couple George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha (Carrie Coon) dancing at a dance, along with younger couples Peggy (Denée Benton) and William (Jordan Donica), and Marian (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry (Harry Richardson).
The couple’s marriage broke down at the end of season 3, suggesting that Bertha was about to re-enter society as a single woman. The official synopsis for season 4 also suggests this: “Bertha Russell changed society at a cost. Now, her family must face the consequences while Agnes van Rhijn takes the opportunity to regain her position.
“Meanwhile, Marian forges a new path and Peggy works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new age, you have to be careful what you wish for.”
The golden age Season 4’s so-called “aftermath” lines up with him being single, and coupled with what we learned in Season 3, I think HBO Max’s first look could be a case of fake news.
Opinion: First look at George and Bertha’s reunion in The Gilded Age season 4 could easily be a flashback
Look
There’s a lot of talk about George and Bertha’s split-second reunion, but why doesn’t anyone consider that it could be a flashback? It would be too easy (and absurd) for the couple to play happy families as soon as season 4 begins, so perhaps Bertha is remembering happier times as she faces new challenges on the social circuit.
Let’s review what happened between them at the end of season 3. Once George is well enough to function after surviving an assassination attempt in the penultimate episode, he quickly tells his wife Bertha that he’s not sure if he loves her or trusts her. He leaves for New York without even a friendly word between them.
The big twist is that Bertha is potentially left as a spinster as she accomplishes her grand mission of having royalty in her bloodline thanks to Gladys (Taissa Farmiga). Having Bertha being single as the show’s biggest hook heading into season 4 means she won’t be abandoned for the foreseeable future.
With The golden age Season 4 is now confirmed to have a late 2026 release date, hopefully we’ll get a trailer for the full season, which could confirm George and Bertha’s fate, in the coming months.
