Hotel owner and staff arrested for assaulting food delivery driver

A dozen people, including a hotel owner and his employees, were arrested for allegedly assaulting an online food delivery boy and his colleagues, Ferozabad police said on Saturday.

The video of the incident went viral on social media.

In his written complaint to the police, the victim, Muhammad Shehzad, stated that he had gone to a hotel near Hill Park Chowrangi in Karachi on Shaheed-e-Millat Road on May 1 to pick up an order when the incident took place.

Shehzad alleged that the hotel owner deliberately delayed the delivery of the order. When he objected, stating that passengers were given a limited time of five minutes per delivery, the hotel owner allegedly became enraged.

He further claimed that the owner, along with 10 to 11 members of staff, allegedly subjected him to serious physical assaults, including kicking and punching.

During the incident, two other food delivery drivers intervened, who were passing by the place and witnessed the attack. However, they were also allegedly beaten by the hotel owner and his employees. The victim further stated that shots were also fired during the altercation.

Police said two suspects were arrested, while raids were underway for the remaining suspects, and further investigations were underway.
