The Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix 2026 It will mark the first time that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosts an F1 race that is not called the Spanish Grand Prix, and that title now belongs to the new Madrid street circuit, which will make its debut later this year.
After an unexpectedly chaotic weekend in Monaco, dominated by five-second penalties for speeding in the pit lane, Barcelona are expected to see a wave of improvements across the grid. And no big team will expect a bigger step forward than McLaren, who, despite its powerful Mercedes power unit, has struggled to consistently compete at the front this season.
Speaking of power units, the recent ADOU verdict has caused quite a stir. Red Bull reportedly owns the most powerful internal combustion engine, with Mercedes around 2% behind, earning the German manufacturer a further development upgrade for both this season and next. Audi, Ferrari and Honda are said to be about 4% behind, giving each of them two additional improvements over the same period.
Kimi Antonelli enters the weekend as the favorite after a remarkable run of form. However, Lewis Hamilton, who has rediscovered his pace and won five consecutive races in Barcelona between 2017 and 2021, could well spring a surprise. He is now ahead of George Russell in the drivers’ standings. But can Ferrari hold on to the straights?
The bigger question is whether the likes of George Russell, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc (who recently found himself at the center of Ferrari’s brake-related frustrations with supplier Brembo following his crash in Monaco) can close the gap and make the fight at the front even more competitive.
