Preview of the 2026 Miami Grand Prix
While television cameras will inevitably spend much of their time searching for celebrities in the crowd in Miami this weekend, the on-track action comes at an exciting time for the championship. The enforced month-long break will have given the engineers a chance to play under the bonnet, while every driver on the grid will have been replaying the twists and turns on the 5.4km track over and over in their minds.
Miami is a happy hunting ground for reigning F1 champion Lando Norris – he took his first win here in 2024. And, seeing his teammate Oscar Piastri top the podium last year, McLaren will be hoping to get back to winning ways after their disastrous start to the 2026 season. They have promised a “brand new car” to kick off their campaign.
Mercedes, on the other hand, must be excited with how the year has gone so far. Three wins out of three will have surpassed their wildest dreams by early 2026, and Kimi Antonelli and George Russell will see Miami as a golden opportunity to establish themselves at the top of the standings. However, the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton have also made great strides and will be desperate to claim their first win of the season here.
The Miami Speedway’s part-street, part-trad track makes it a difficult beast to master, with exceptionally fast straights dominated by many difficult corners. In its first home Grand Prix, the Cadillac team will be eager to capitalize, with Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez still seeking the constructor’s first point in Formula 1.
