Hundreds of Howard University freshmen have taken to the Internet, responding indignantly to the cancellation of their enrollment days before admission.
Howard students have been protesting on social media expressing their agony and anguish after they were informed by email of the decision.
Howard University sent out the notice on Wednesday, July 22 that reads: “As a result of this missed deadline, we are no longer able to reserve your spot in the incoming Howard University class.”
Howard delivered the notices to freshmen who were unable to make tuition payments by the July 10 deadline.
The decision comes after Howard concludes registration for the fall 2026 academic session, which begins August 17.
A Howard University spokesperson commented on the situation in a statement sent to a CBS affiliate, WUSA9, saying, “We understand that the enrollment update that was issued yesterday is difficult and disappointing.”
“The school says they have been informing students and families about the registration process since March.”
According to the university, the cases are under review and adds that it “will consider the relevant circumstances that arise regarding the granting of pending scholarships and financial aid resources.”
However, the university spokesperson did not detail the exact number of students affected.
