Netflix has released the first trailer for its new film. Ladies first (which you can see below), and it’s safe to say that the first look hasn’t been well received.
“With the rules of engagement changed, he goes toe-to-toe with a fiery colleague in a playful satire on what happens when the script is flipped.”

It really might be the worst trailer I’ve ever seen in my life. Rosamund Pike’s agent must be jailed https://t.co/dQyu3LkjPuApril 16, 2026
Already dubbed “the worst trailer I’ve ever seen” by fans online, Ladies first appears to be an English remake of the 2018 French film I am not an easy man.
Still, there is another great irony that we haven’t even considered.
Ladies First trailer branded ‘incredibly depressing’ by Netflix fans
First, let’s dig a little deeper into these fan reactions. One posted on X/Twitter: “No wonder there are massive layoffs in Hollywood right now,” and another agreed: “I feel like this script could have been on the shelf for a while.”
“This concept would have been so successful in 1987,” says a third.
But while the narrative doesn’t convince online fans, there’s something else to consider. Parody films are something Baron Cohen is well suited for and known for. For Pike, however, it’s a more surprising move, especially given his current success in the National Theater play. Inter aliawhich is currently streaming on the company’s At Home platform internationally.
Look
Still playing in London’s West End before moving to Broadway in late 2026, Pike plays Jessica, a pioneering Crown Court judge balancing a high-profile career with the emotional work of motherhood.
When her teenage son is accused of serious sexual assault, she faces a crisis that tests her feminist principles and legal convictions against her maternal instincts.
That both projects are being released back-to-back seems even more jarring, particularly given the critical and fan success Inter Alia is currently receiving.
We will be able to see Ladies first on May 22, so full reactions are yet to be determined.
