- Masters of the universeThe cast does not include all popular characters.
- Fan favorites like Orko are conspicuous by their absence in their trailers.
- The film’s director has explained why they are not part of the main cast
The filmmaker behind this year’s film Masters of the universe The film has warned fans that some of the franchise’s most popular characters will not appear as part of its main cast.
Speaking exclusively to TechRadar, Travis Knight admitted that he and the rest of the film’s chief creative team had to make some tough decisions about who to cast in Amazon’s new film. In the end, fan favorites that didn’t make the cut were left out because, in Knight’s own words, “they wouldn’t work within the story we’re telling.”
To be fair to Knight and company, there are a lot of classic He-Man characters that are part of the process. That said, there are notable absences from his ensemble, including but not limited to Orko, Man-E-Faces, and Merman.
Understandably, there’s no way one of the new 2026 movies could involve all of the famous faces from the multimedia property created by Mattel. However, some fans were surely disappointed when they realized their favorite character wasn’t part of the cast, especially when B-tier individuals like Ram-Man, Fisto, and Mechaneck made the cut.
as he confessed Masters of the universe fan, Knight is well aware of the great respect in which some characters are held. But, as he told me, the film’s creators had to draw a line in the sand somewhere to ensure that their cast wasn’t overstretched, nor that its plot was hampered by an unmeasurable number of character cameos.
“Movies are a time-based art,” Knight said. “You have a limited time to tell the story you want to tell and, even if it is called Masters of the universeIt is fundamentally the movie and the story of Adam. So there are definitely things that are outside the bounds of what could be told in a two and a half hour movie; “You have to be disciplined about it.”
“There were certainly things I wanted to include in the movie, but they didn’t fit,” he continued. “It would be a distraction and it wouldn’t work with the story we’re telling.”
“It’s such a big world and universe, and there are so many characters that I love, that it was difficult to make that selection,” Knight added. “But I think it honors so many different ways [of the franchise]. “We have characters from the comic strips and the 1987 Dolph Lundgren live-action movie, so it was really a way to pay homage to all the incredible work that’s been done on this franchise over the last 40 years.”
