Jesy Nelson Celebrates Daughter’s Progress After SMA Diagnosis

The singer smiled proudly as she posted a photo of her little girl sitting in her wheelchair.

Jesy Nelson proudly shared an update about one of her twin daughters on Tuesday, posting a photo of her sitting upright in her wheelchair.

Jesy revealed in January that her twins, Ocean and Story, now one year old, had been diagnosed with SMA type 1, a rare condition that causes muscle atrophy.

Due to late diagnosis, the girls are unlikely to be able to walk and need specialized equipment to help them breathe at night, as well as feeding tubes.

On Instagram, she wrote: “She looks like such a big girl without a tube in her face and sitting in her chair.”

Last month, Jesy revealed she had been left “heartbroken and outraged” when she vowed to “keep fighting” after attending parliament for MPs’ debate on SMA screening from birth.

Jesy traveled to Parliament to debate whether newborn screening for the disease would be rolled out across England.

It comes after Jesy gave fans a glimpse of the moment she found out about her twin daughters’ SMA diagnosis in her new Amazon Prime documentary, Life Changing.

The 35-year-old released a trailer for the show on Thursday, ahead of its July 17 release.
