King Frederick of Denmark was among the distinguished guests in the royal box at Wimbledon on Sunday afternoon.
The 58-year-old monarch and well-known tennis enthusiast was accompanied by his long-time friend and confidant Christian von Buchwald as they watched the action at the All England Club.
Sitting nearby were several prominent figures from the world of sports.
Former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss attended along with his son Samuel, while former British tennis player and sports executive Deborah Jevans was also present.
Former field hockey international and scholar Dr. Mark Precious completed the list of distinguished guests.
The couple met when Frederik returned from boarding school in France at the age of 15, when he was introduced to von Buchwald.
Their relationship has endured ever since, and von Buchwald later built a respected medical career.
He now serves as a senior physician and professor of ear, nose and throat surgery at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen.
The closeness of their bond was revealed in 2007 when von Buchwald was chosen as one of Princess Elizabeth’s six godfathers.
His wife, Elisabeth, also plays a role within the royal household as inspector of the court inventory.
