New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown was talking about center Mitchell Robinson’s free throw woes when another one arose: A reporter’s phone rang.
Brown, 56, jokingly picked up the phone and spoke into it, while delivering a sermon about the need for journalists to keep their phones silenced.
“Whatever the phone is, you have to do a better job of silencing it when you get a text message,” Brown said into the phone. “Because when you get a text message, it interrupts the press conference. And people here don’t like the press conference being interrupted. So I would appreciate your help next time, whatever the phone number. Thank you. Sorry, was there another question?”

A journalist approached and claimed that the activated phone was his.
“I’m sorry, coach. I’m guilty,” the journalist said.
“It’s okay, no problem,” Brown said while laughing. “You’re a serious guy. I like it.”

Brown’s Knicks team took a 1-0 series lead over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night, winning 113-102. Jalen Brunson (28 points) and Karl-Anthony Towns (25 points) led the series-opening win.
Brown is in his first season as head coach of the Knicks, as the team fired Tom Thibodeau after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
There is increased pressure on Brown and the Knicks to at least reach the NBA Finals, as team owner James Dolan said in a rare radio interview with WFAN in January.

“I would say we want to get to the finals and we should win them,” Dolan said during the interview. “This is sport; anything can happen. Getting to the final is something we have to do. Win the final, we have to do it.”
The Knicks got off to a good start with their win Saturday night, a victory that Dolan hopes will be the first of 16 games the team will win en route to a title. The Knicks will play the Hawks in Game 2 on Monday at 8 pm ET.
