Lee Anderson and Zarah Sultana expelled from UK Parliament for calling PM a ‘liar’

Two UK MPs have been expelled from the House of Commons after accusing Prime Minister Keir Starmer of lying.

Reform UK’s Lee Anderson and Your Party’s Zara Sultana were expelled from parliament after accusing Prime Minister Starmer of lying during a statement about the appointment of a former UK ambassador to the US, Lord Peter Mandelson.

For the uninitiated, Mandelson was fired from his position after Epstein documents, released by the US Department of Justice, accused him of having close ties to convicted and disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

During Monday’s session, Anderson said: “The problem the Prime Minister has is that no one believes him. The public don’t believe him. MPs on this side of the House don’t believe him. His own gullible MPs don’t believe him. So the Prime Minister agrees with me, has he been lying?”

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, immediately intervened and asked him to withdraw his words; However, the reformist deputy refused and said: “I will not take it back. That man could not stand upright in bed.”

They asked him to leave.

Later in the session, MP Zarah Sultana described the prime minister as a “blatant liar” and accused him of misleading the nation.

The speaker asked her to leave but she insisted on staying. MPs subsequently voted in favor of a motion to suspend Ms Sultana from House services. It was introduced by government whip Gen Kitchen.

The suspension did not deter her as she doubled down on Prime Minister Starmer and called for his resignation. In a post on X, Sultana wrote: “Keir Starmer is a blatant liar and if he had any decency he would resign.”

The suspension marks the first such action in the UK parliament since 2022. House of Commons rules prohibit MPs from accusing each other of deliberately lying or misleading.
