Meghan Markle has been separated from her father Thomas Markle for the past seven years, but had their first correspondence at the end of last year following his serious health scare.
The Duchess of Sussex had sent a handwritten letter to her father, who was recovering from his life-saving leg amputation in a hospital in the Philippines. The retired Hollywood lighting director is now back in the US to continue receiving medical care, raising hopes that father and daughter could be reunited.
Although Thomas has expressed his desire to finally meet his daughter and grandchildren along with Prince Harry, it is unlikely that the meeting will take place. According to royal expert Hugo Vickers, Thomas “must feel extremely disappointed” given the state of his family.
Before Meghan fell out with her father ahead of her wedding to King Charles’ youngest son, it was revealed that Harry had never met his father-in-law. Vickers suggested Meghan would have been embarrassed.
“I raise it as a possibility,” he said. GB News. “I think it’s most likely that she was nervous that he might say something to Prince Harry.”
He explained that Thomas was good to Meghan while she was growing up.
“If you listen to what he says and not how his words are expressed, you will find a decent man who must be extremely disappointed,” he said. “In fact, it was a member of Prince Harry’s family who suggested that she might have been nervous about what he might say.”
Meghan may not want Harry and his father to meet yet, which is why she has also rejected all plans to meet Thomas Markle.
