Mel C has offered a candid and characteristically self-deprecating insight into what it’s like to date a British person, and the answer, laughingly, starts with alcohol.
He spice girls The star, 52, appeared in Cosmopolitan. blind date series where editor-in-chief Willa Bennett asked her to share the best and worst parts of dating a Brit.
Sporty Spice didn’t hold back.
“We drink too much,” he said with a laugh, before quickly adding, as he took a sip of his cocktail, “Cheers, you know, chug, chug, chug, I’m kidding.”
On the other hand, she was equally proud of what her compatriot brings to a relationship.
“Probably our sense of humor,” he said of the best part. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously.”
Coming from the woman who spent years in one of the most self-aware pop groups of all time, it sounds that way.
The appearance also gave Mel C the chance to talk about her relationship with Australian model Chris Dingwall, whom she met on celebrity dating app Raya after meeting when she was in London and he was in Sydney.
The remote start did not discourage her.
“Well, he’s not under my feet,” she remembers thinking at the time.
She had a DJ tour planned that would take her to Australia anyway, and decided it was worth pursuing. Their first date took place in November 2023.
He described the experience of meeting someone online before meeting them in person as unexpectedly effective.
“Online dating, does that age me? Because you’re getting to know each other before you get to know each other, right? Then I was like, ‘Oh, I like the sound of this guy.’
But then when I met him, I was like, ‘Yeah, I really like this guy.’ So it was pretty quick.”
When asked what was the quickest date he had ever fallen out of love with someone, his answer was equally quick: “When you wake up the next morning.”
Mel C, originally from the northwest of England, has a daughter, Scarlett Starr, born in 2009 with her ex Thomas Starr.
He has largely kept Scarlett out of the public eye, in a quieter corner of a life that, in all other respects, she seems very happy to share.
