- A new Windows 11 error has reached the Recycle Bin
- You may see an incorrect file name
- Microsoft says it is working on a fix
The latest frustrating bug affecting Windows 11 affects the trusty Recycle Bin and was apparently delivered in the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094126), although Microsoft says it is aware of the issue and is working to fix it.
As Neowin reports, the bug means that when you try to delete a file from the Recycle Bin, the confirmation dialog displays the internal file name instead of the actual file name. It’s not particularly serious, but it is confusing.
The correct name is displayed in the Recycle Bin and is used if you choose to restore the file instead of deleting it. The alternate internal name is only used in the confirmation dialog screen.
Microsoft says it is working to fix the issue, although we don’t have a timeline for delivery. It’s just one of several issues that have been introduced with this bug, including issues with accessing OneDrive.
Is AI to blame?

As you can imagine, Reddit users have taken a dim view of Microsoft’s latest mishap. Many suggest that this is the result of code written by AI, although we have no confirmation of this.
Last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that up to 30% of the company’s code was written by, and that number is likely higher now. However, he didn’t say how reliable and functional that code is.
“This update broke me, I’m so fed up with Win 11 and all the problems that I’m installing Linux on my desktop at this very moment,” one user commented. “Goodbye Microslop!” The Reddit thread also includes reports of many other problems.
Bugs accompanying Windows 11 updates are quite common at this stage, with Microsoft often trying to fix several reported issues at once, although it has also moved forward with some substantial updates in recent months.
