Naomi Osaka beats Iva Jovic in three-set thriller to reach French Open fourth round

Naomi Osaka, after a close match in the third round, beat Iva Jovic on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Osaka showed experience on clay, sweeping 6-7, (5-7), 7-6 (7-3) and 4-6, as Jovic continued to hit the ball.

At 15-15, Iva Jovic’s forehand hits the top of the net and trickles into Osaka’s side of the court.

On the next point, Osaka catches the top of the net and also wins the point, to level the score.

Jovic then misses the court with a forehand to hand Osaka match point.

Naomi Osaka, after winning her third round match against Iva Jovic, spoke in an on-court interview.

“I probably played one of the best games. I hope to get better every year.”

“Iva is an incredible player and I think we will see her get better and better.”

She continued and added: “Today I was much calmer than in my first matches, in Slams, the further I get, the calmer I am.

“This is the first time I’ve made it to the fourth round. I’m grateful to be here and I want to thank everyone for watching.”

The four-time Grand Slam champion has qualified for the fourth round of the French Open for the first time.

She will face Aryna Sabalenka or Daria Kasatkina in the round of 16, and both will be next on the court.

This is the Japanese star’s eighth appearance at the French Open, where Osaka saw her campaign halted in the third round on three occasions.
