NFL quarterback Jameis Winston lent a hand Sunday as Japanese soccer fans cleaned up trash around Dallas stadium after the team drew 2-2 against the Netherlands in the World Cup.
Videos posted on social media showed fans holding garbage bags with the words “Japan Pride” emblazoned on them. The New York Giants quarterback, FOX Sports’ World Cup soccer correspondent, was also seen cleaning up trash around the stadium.

Japan earned a point in the group stage thanks to Daichi Kamada’s tying goal in the 88th minute of the match against the Netherlands. Samurai Blue fans were in a frenzy after the goal went into the back of the net.
“Our players managed to be tenacious but at the same time patient and just stay calm and find and take advantage of an opportunity,” Japanese coach Hajime Moriyasu said through an interpreter.
The Dutch Virgil Van Dijk and Crysencio Summerville scored on the post in the second half. Japanese Keio Nakamura recovered minutes later. All three goals were scored in a span of 14 minutes.

But conceding a goal at the end of the match was difficult for the Dutch to accept.
“It’s disappointing now because obviously conceding the lead is never good,” Van Dijk said. “It’s very disappointing that we conceded a goal so late from a set piece.”

The Netherlands beat Japan in their only other World Cup meeting in 2010.
“I’m disappointed not to have won, but it’s because we were ahead twice,” Koeman added. “Many people underestimated Japan, but for the hundredth time, if you underestimate them, that’s your problem. Do you think Japan’s strength was exaggerated before the match? Let’s wait until the end of the tournament to see who is right.”
Japan reached the knockout round in 2022 and 2018. They have never made it past the round of 16.
