The Philadelphia Flyers were without star winger Owen Tippett in their second-round series loss to the Carolina Hurricanes due to internal bleeding, the team announced.

Tippett, 27, played all of the team’s first-round series victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, but said he suffered an internal bleeding problem during that series.

“I was unable to return for the second-round series against Carolina due to an internal bleeding issue I suffered during the first-round series against Pittsburgh,” Tippett said in a Flyers statement.

“After a series of medical evaluations, treatments and rehabilitation under the care of the Flyers’ medical team, I am progressing and feeling better every day. Although I was cleared to travel and skate with the team at certain practices, things were not progressing at the pace I expected or that would allow me to continue playing safely.”

Tippett scored a goal and assisted in the Flyers’ series against the Penguins. The Ontario native said how proud he was of his season and expressed his gratitude for the support he has received.

Tippett said he is confident of a full recovery and is looking forward to training camp. The forward had one of the best seasons of his career, scoring 28 goals and 23 assists.

He began his career with the Florida Panthers before being traded to the Flyers in 2022 as part of the Claude Giroux package. In 428 games over seven seasons, Tippett has recorded 121 goals and 115 assists, which equates to 236 points.
