A new NYT Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone, which means some people are always playing “today’s game” while others play “yesterday’s.” If instead you are looking for the Friday puzzle then click here: NYT Strands Tips and Answers for Friday, May 8 (Game #796).

NYT Strands Today (Game #797): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game number 797 are…
- ARTICHOKE
- LETTUCE
- RADISH
- ONION
- ASPARAGUS
- SPANGRAM: SPRING VEGETABLES
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
Initially I thought I was playing yesterday’s game again, but the themes are subtly different: yesterday it was “garden variety” as in common and today it is “garden varieties” as in the many vegetables one can grow in a real garden, specifically in spring.
That was fixed, I saw ARTICHOKE almost immediately. Well that’s a lie, I discovered “suffocation” immediately and then I wondered if it could actually be ARTICHOKE.
After getting LETTUCE, it was all pretty rudimentary, as each word was layered on top of each other in a growing pile, a bit like compost, I guess.
Yesterday’s NYT Strands Answers (Friday, May 8, Game #796)
- ESSENTIAL
- PROSAIC
- COMMON
- COMMON
- PEDESTRIAN
- SPANGRAM: RUNOFTHEMILL
