ISLAMABAD:
The government collected over Rs 1.2 trillion from consumers as oil tax during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, while over Rs 35 billion was recovered under the Climate Support Levy (CSL), according to official documents.
The documents further revealed that electricity consumers across the country paid more than Rs 1.9 trillion in taxes during the last three years through distribution power companies (DISCOs).
According to records, the government collected Rs 145 billion in oil taxes in July 2025, Rs 115 billion in August, Rs 111 billion in September, Rs 145 billion in October, Rs 151 billion in November, Rs 157 billion in December, Rs 124 billion in January 2026, Rs 120 billion in February and 137 billion rupees in March.
Officials also revealed that Rs 35 billion had so far been collected from consumers under the CSL on petroleum products, while the total collections under this head are expected to reach Rs 51 billion by the end of the current fiscal year, June 2026.
On the other hand, official records of DISCOs revealed that electricity consumers paid more than Rs 1.9 trillion in taxes during the last three fiscal years. During fiscal year 2022-23, consumers paid Rs 507 billion in taxes, while the amount increased to Rs 698 billion in fiscal year 2023-24 and over Rs 700 billion last fiscal year.
Among distribution companies, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) recorded the highest collection, recovering over Rs 532 billion during the three-year period. It was followed by Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) with Rs 323 billion and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company with Rs 307 billion.
Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) collected Rs 240 billion, while Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) recovered Rs 2.32 billion. Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) raised Rs 151 billion and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) raised Rs 57.58 billion.
Meanwhile, Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) recovered Rs 34.46 billion, Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) collected Rs 24.28 billion and Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) recovered Rs 1.55 billion in taxes from consumers in the last three years.
