- The Oura Ring 5 has a smaller design, longer battery life and a higher price
- Six new features are coming to the Oura app, but not for all members
- You can pre-order today and receive it by June 4.
The Oura Ring 5 is officially here and it’s a big step up from last year’s model. Oura says it has completely overhauled the design, making it 40% smaller, lighter, more durable, more precise, and the most scratch-resistant ring yet.
Almost everything has been completely redesigned, allowing it to last up to a week (we noted six days of charge in our Oura Ring 4 review), take more accurate and consistent readings thanks to a new signal architecture that uses more powerful LEDs and sensors, and be less susceptible to scratches thanks to a new extra-strong “physical vapor deposition” coating.
Even the portable charging case has gotten a nifty update; While the previous generation had no buttons, there is a new dedicated button to make it easier to see the battery status and quickly pair it with your device. In addition to this, Oura also adds ‘Locate’ to help you keep track of where your smart ring is, which will also be available for Oura Ring 4.
Priced at $99/£99 for the case, and $399/£399 for the base finishes (silver and black) and $499/£499 for more premium styles (there’s a new gold and hot pink shade in addition to the usual brushed silver and ‘stealth’ options), the Oura Ring 5 is more expensive than the previous generation and its rivals, such as the Samsung Galaxy Ring and Amazfit Helio Ring. Although the upgraded case will cost the same as last year’s model: $99 / £99.
Pre-orders are now available and shipping will begin on June 4. Because the smart ring is significantly smaller than the previous generation, Oura encourages existing customers looking to upgrade to use its exclusive Oura Ring 5 sizing kit, as the fit may feel different with the same size.
Membership is still $5.99/£5.99 a month ($69.99/£69.99 a year), which is great because there are several new features rolling out to different regions and generations. However, not all of them will be available at the same time.
Every new app feature comes to Oura Ring owners
When the new smart ring launches, Oura Ring members will get several new features, including ‘Live Activity Tracking’ to view your health metrics in real-time while you exercise, ‘Menopause Insights’ to assess sleep, mood, cognition and symptoms of daily functioning, and ‘Hormonal Birth Control’, which builds on its existing ‘Cycle Insights’ dashboard by offering a “first-of-its-kind” view into how data changes. biometrics throughout hormonal and hormone-free days.
The latter two features have already been introduced in the US as part of Oura’s continued expansion into women’s health data, making it a great free upgrade for all existing subscribers worldwide.
On June 30, ‘Lab Uploads’ will also launch globally, allowing members to import their blood and lab tests directly into the Oura app to help compare lab results with their Oura biometric data.
With even more personal health data tracked and stored in the app, Oura has added a new security protection tool that allows you to delete your stored data from a specific time period without having to cancel your entire account, which will be available to all members at launch.
Those in the US will also receive even more new features as part of the launch. Starting today (May 28), you will have the option to participate in a new ‘Brain Health Study’ to measure how your sleep, stress and behavior relate to your brain’s cognitive function and your body’s performance. The study was developed with Cambridge Cognition, a UK neuroscience technology company.
Launching in early June is ‘Health Radar’, a new always-on data collection feature for estimated blood pressure and nighttime breathing readings that builds on the ‘Symptom Radar’ alert system, and ‘Health Records’, which builds on the new ‘Lab Uploads’ by allowing you to store all your clinical reports in one place.
All of these updates are part of Oura’s mission to help you find more “actionable” solutions from your health insights. Oura has partnered with an on-demand care platform called Counsel Health, which connects medical AI with licensed doctors so you can ask questions directly in the app and get personalized medical advice from licensed healthcare providers.
Last but not least, members can expect GLP-1 medication self-management to come to the app as part of an expansion of its metabolic health offering. Oura says global adoption is projected to surpass 100 million by 2030, making it a great solution for patients who have to juggle multiple apps to track doses and biometrics.
Oura Chief Product Officer Holly Shelton says, “Oura Ring 5 is the most significant leap in the history of smart rings.” If we look at the new specifications and features announced, this could set a new standard in smart rings as it also meets almost Every update we wanted to see for the Oura Ring 5 (the price is higher than we expected). But of course, we’ll have to test it ourselves to confirm this.
