Fable will use the same engine as the Force Horizon series, which Playground Games says has been a “gift” for the upcoming role-playing game (RPG).
During a Q&A session with press at an Xbox event adjacent to this year’s Summer Game Fest (SGF) attended by TechRadar Gaming, associate game director Craig Littler discussed how the team applied the force technological engine to create FableThe expansive fantasy world of, as well as how certain elements evolved.
“In terms of synergies with forceso we are on the same technological base, the same engine, the force technological engine,” he said, “and that has been a real gift for us, because it is the engine that we have been working on for over a decade at Playground, and it is the great engine that has produced the Force Horizon series, and that is the engine we are using to Fable also.”
However, it is not simply the same technology reused. The developer explained that the team “built a ton of additional technology on top of” the base engine and had to switch from racing to a character-based game.
“We’ve had to invest a lot in locomotion and animation and also in things like cinematics and missions,” Litler added, “but really the force The technology engine is incredibly good at extremely high fidelity graphics as well as world-class streaming. And for us, to use that foundation to Fable “It’s just a match made in heaven, combined with our experience and, honestly, a team that are huge fans of this franchise.”
He went on to confirm that Peter Molyneux, the creator of the Fable series, was not involved “at all” in the development of the new title, saying: “He’s a legend and we play a lot of his games, but this is very much Playground’s vision for Fable“.
Fable will officially launch on February 23, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Series S, and PC.
