PM Shehbaz inaugurates Sky47 AI data center, hailing it as a step towards a ‘forward-thinking Pakistan’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Sky47 AI cloud and data center in Islamabad, describing it as a major step forward in Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and saying the project offered “impregnable security” and would help create “a dynamic and forward-thinking new Pakistan.”

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister described the facility as “remarkable and truly inspiring” and said it had been built in record time by “the best minds from across Pakistan” in both the military and civilian sectors.

“The state-of-the-art data center is amazing and praiseworthy. I am very happy to witness this great project,” he said.

The prime minister praised the leadership of the field marshal and said the facility was built under his supervision in a record period of time.

“If we follow this model… I am more than ever absolutely convinced that we will not only be able to make up for the losses of the past, but inshaAllah, we will create a very dynamic and forward-looking new Pakistan, which is the need of the hour,” the prime minister said.

Recalling the success in the Marka-e-Haq against India last year, he termed it as the best moment in the country’s history.

“This goes a long way to explaining that if there is a will, there is a way… you come across challenges, difficulties, but if you have the will to negotiate and a burning hope and energy to turn that into a great opportunity, then Marka-e-Haq appears on the horizon,” he added.

Terming the project as the future of Pakistan, the prime minister said it offered “unassailable security” and showed that “anything is feasible as long as we act together.”

Also speaking at the ceremony, Minister of IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja called the data center “a step in the right direction”, saying it provided Pakistan with the basis of an infrastructure “capable of producing the most important economic unit today: symbolic intelligence.”

“This is where Pakistan’s opportunity is extraordinary,” he said. “We are a young nation, we are a great nation and we are a nation with amazing human capacity.”

According to Sky47 Limited, the data center is designed to support artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and high-performance computing, while helping to protect sensitive national and commercial data.

The company, a majority-owned subsidiary of Mari Energies Limited, announced the launch through a disclosure filed with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

Sky47 Limited said the data center had been designed to provide sovereign cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence computing, cybersecurity solutions, enterprise hosting and managed technology services.

He said the facility was aimed at supporting critical workloads in government, banking, telecom, healthcare and technology sectors in Pakistan.

The launch of Karakoram-01 comes at a time when demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data localization continues to grow, and companies and public institutions are increasingly seeking national infrastructure to manage sensitive digital operations.
