A 14-year-old boy was allegedly buried alive in a village on the outskirts of Mari Lak in Punjab’s Sargodha district after reporting an old rape attempt, police said on Saturday, adding that a case was registered and three suspects were arrested.

The injured boy was rescued and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors said his condition was out of danger.

According to police, the 14-year-old girl was allegedly the target of an attempted rape about 20 days ago. However, the family did not go to the police at that time, so no action was taken at that time. Police initially arrested two suspects, while the main suspect was later detained.

Sargodha district police officer Muhammad Suhaib Ashraf said the incident was being investigated from all angles and the suspects would be dealt with according to the law. He said it was too early to conclude the allegations, adding that a final opinion would be formed after forensic reports.

the boy told him The express PAkGazette that after he reported the incident, the suspects became angry and decided to punish him.

“He (the main suspect) decided to teach me a lesson. On the 9th of Muharram, in the afternoon, they picked me up outside my house and brutally beat me along with two accomplices,” the boy said.

“Later he took me to a deserted area where bushes were growing and a wild animal had already dug a hole. They threw me there and covered me with dirt,” he added.

A first information report (FIR) on the complaint of the boy’s mother was registered at Jhal Chakian police station under sections 34 (common intention), 324 (attempt to murder) and 376 (3) (rape of a minor) on Friday and identified three suspects.

According to the FIR, a copy of which is available with The express PAkGazetteHe stated that on June 25, around 4:30 pm, his 14-year-old son left his house to attend a meeting but did not return until late in the evening, prompting the family to inform the police through helpline 15.

She further stated that the next day she and her husband were still looking for the child when they suddenly heard a child crying. When they arrived at the scene, they found the child buried in the ground, only his leg was visible. Police and Rescue 1122 teams were called again, after which Rescue 1122 personnel recovered the child and took him to DHQ Hospital.

The FIR added that when the boy regained consciousness, he claimed that about 20 days earlier he had told the main suspect’s elder brother that his brother had subjected him to indecent assault.

He further said that on June 25, while he was on his way to a meeting around 5 pm and reached Dera Wadhra, the prime suspect intercepted him and questioned him whether he had told the incident to his elder brother.

The FIR stated that the other two suspects also reached the spot, following which the three abused and assaulted him and took him to nearby fields, where they subjected him to violence and buried him in the ground.

Calling the incident a grave injustice, the perpetrator sought legal action against the suspects, calling for justice and their punishment.
