Set in the 1990s, Raising Kanan has been exploring the early years of Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis) since 2021, as he gets into the drug game and helps his mother’s growing drug business. We’ve seen a lot of violence, drama and scandal since then and sadly we only have eight more episodes left.
Here’s everything we know about season 5 so far, from the first full trailer to the confirmed cast and release date.

Power-Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 Trailer
Look
The trailer for season 5 was released on May 18 with this synopsis: “Kanan has become exactly who he was meant to be and the Thomas family is ready for all-out war.”
Incredibly, it also resolves Season 4’s hanging over whether Kanan really killed his mother, Raq. Surprise…she is very much alive and well.
That doesn’t necessarily mean she’s off the hook, however, as the trailer above suggests that other people might want her eliminated as well.

Power-Book III: Raising Kanan season 5 plot synopsis
Luckily for us, Starz has gone into exceptional detail when it comes to the season 5 synopsis.
As he explains, “Kanan Stark’s journey over the last four seasons of Raising Kanan He has been plagued by ambition, betrayal, and relentless attempts to escape his mother’s shadow. He once admired Raq, eager to join her empire, but soon discovered the truth about who she really was and the secrets she kept from him.
“Forced to confront this web of lies, Kanan faced an existential crisis of self-discovery and emerged stronger and more determined than ever. Although he embraced his true self and freed himself from his mother’s influence, he still could not let her crimes go unanswered.”
He continues: “Now, in Season 5, Kanan’s true cruelty takes shape. He knows exactly who he is and who he must become to defeat his enemies. As his relationship with Raq reaches the point of no return and any chance of reconciliation becomes a distant memory, war is inevitable. Kanan solidifies his place in the Queens drug game alongside Southside legend Breeze, and their alliance sets the stage for a reckoning that will affect all players in this dangerous business.
“Many sacrifices will be made, whether it be the Thomas family facing the collapse of their reign, Unique fighting to preserve his legacy, or the mob maneuvering behind the scenes. However, nothing will stand in the way of Kanan’s quest for power. After all, this is not the end for Kanan Stark. It is just the beginning.”
Is this the end of the Power franchise?
Fortunately, no, it is not. Just because Raising Kanan is ending, Force still has two other spin-offs in production: Origins and Legacy.
More importantly, anyone still alive at the end of Raising Kanan has the opportunity to appear in Originswhich will follow the early lives of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan in the late ’90s and early ’00s in New York.
We already know that Curtis will reprise the role of Kanan for the upcoming spin-off, with Spence Moore II playing the young Ghost and Charlie Mann playing Egan.
Legacy will be a direct continuation of the original Power series rather than a prequel, following the returns of Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) and Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) to the streets of New York.
Neither have release dates as of yet.
