ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday stressed that providing easy financial facilities to various sectors is essential for sustainable economic development.
He stressed that banks should significantly increase lending to priority sectors, especially the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector, which is the backbone of the country’s economy.
The prime minister chaired a high-level meeting on promoting access to finance in Pakistan and was briefed on the Access to Finance Plan, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister said that availability of easily accessible financial services would lead to increased exports, new employment opportunities and sustainable economic growth. He also announced that better performing banks would be encouraged to expand their financial facilities.
“I will personally chair the monthly review meeting on the progress of the Access to Finance Plan. The government wants to make the economy stronger and more export-oriented by increasing access to financial services,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said.

The Prime Minister, in a meeting with the candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, Macky Sall, who visited him here, expressed the hope that the incoming leadership of the UN will continue to advance the three pillars of the United Nations (peace and security, development and human rights) in a balanced and effective manner.

During a meeting with Rebeca Grynspan, candidate for the position of Secretary General of the United Nations, at the Prime Minister’s House, she highlighted the need to establish effective mechanisms for the faithful implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and to defend international law and treaties in order to promote global peace, security and prosperity.
