PTI will finalize the August 5 protest strategy today

With calls from within the party and the family of PTI founder Imran Khan to intensify pressure on the government.

LAHORE:

The PTI will hold a parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday (today) to discuss a wide range of issues, with the party’s strategy for the protest planned for August 5 expected to dominate the agenda. The recommendations arising from the meeting will be taken to the party’s political committee for a final decision.

Amid calls within the party and from PTI founder Imran Khan’s family to intensify pressure on the government, the party sees the August 5 nationwide protest announced by the TTAP as a major opportunity that could provide the political breakthrough it has been seeking for a long time. According to conversations with party leaders, the PTI intends to play a much more active role in the protest campaign instead of leaving the mobilization solely in the hands of the TTAP.

“We know that TTAP, without PTI, is nothing, so this time PTI should take the initiative and support TTAP with all its might,” said a party leader. “We have exhausted our political capital, so we do not have enough room to maneuver to allow the TTAP to waste another opportunity.”

When asked what strategy the party should adopt, the leader said the answer was not simple. “Unfortunately, in Punjab we are facing a dictatorial regime that is ruthless and merciless,” he said.

Another PTI leader said the party had to exercise caution in its criticism of the establishment if it hoped to find a way out of the current political deadlock.
