Queen was rushed to hospital after a health problem

Queen Margaret of Denmark, 86, has been hospitalized following a health emergency, a royal court spokesperson confirmed.

Sharing an update on the Danish royal’s health, the representative said in a statement that she is being treated for angina at Rigshospitalet hospital and is “tired” and in “good spirits.”

According to the statement, the queen, who abdicated in 2024 and passed the throne to her first-born son Frederik, will remain under observation over the weekend.

The former sovereign reigned in the Scandinavian country for 52 years before passing the throne to her eldest son, Frederik, in January 2024.

Margrethe has faced multiple health problems in recent years. The Queen was previously hospitalized last year.

In 2025, Queen Margaret was admitted to hospital for an undisclosed illness. At the time, the royal household stated that she was admitted to Rigshospitalet for “precautionary observation.”

After being admitted on 8 May, Queen Margaret returned to Fredensborg Palace on 10 May when she was discharged from hospital.

Queen Margaret has had a busy royal schedule of late, with her latest royal outing alongside her daughter-in-law Queen Mary causing the former monarch to have to exchange some stern words with the reigning queen.

The royal family, which also includes Mary’s husband King Frederick and Queen Anne Mary of Greece, were seen outside Fredensborg Palace to attend a Royal Corps of Music Guards concert for Margaret’s 86th birthday.
